I spend a lot of time in my garden. I see and hear the calls of birds of different types in each season, and it struck me that I knew so little about them. I found that drawing and painting the bird helped me remember their names and details.
I thought of the cigar boxes because I used them to take pencils and art supplies to school. It has always seemed strange to me that these beautiful, often hand-made boxes are so temporary. It is nice to be able to extend their life and usefulness.
I try to select the right bird for the unique characteristics of each cigar box, and incorporate the bird into existing design. I hope you love them as much as I do.
